THE STORY OF LEVENT, THE APPLE OF ISTANBUL’S EYE
The story of the Levent neighborhood dates back much further than most residential areas in Istanbul.
In the 1780s, Sultan Abdulhamid I granted the area east of today’s Büyükdere Avenue to Kapudan Pasha of Algeria, Hasan Pasha.
Since the navy soldiers at that time were called “levents,” these lands began to be known as “Levend Çiftliği.”
ONE OF THE EXEMPLARY URBANIZATION MODELS: LEVENT
In 1949, the municipality transferred the 100-hectare area of Levend Çiftliği to Emlak Bank for housing development.
The goal was to create a living space with modern infrastructure.
Accordingly, structures and areas such as markets, schools, mosques, and health centers were created within the neighborhood.
A LIFESTYLE INSPIRED BY LONDON
The Country in the City movement first originated in London, England. Capturing the interest of the entire world and spreading rapidly, Istanbul, the city of cities, became one of the stops for this new living concept.

35,000 TREES PLANTED OVER HALF A CENTURY
Designed by architect Kemal Ahmet Aru and Rebii Gorbon, 1st Levent was built in 1950, 2nd Levent in 1951, 3rd Levent in 1952-53, and 4th Levent in 1956-57, with 35,000 mature trees planted during the construction process.
30,000 of these trees still stand in the Levent area.
